Simple Tips to Creating a Beautiful Charcuterie Board
I make a lot of charcuterie boards!! I’ve made them for holiday, events, and even taught workshops putting them together. Here a couple of key tips on making beautiful charcuterie boards:
1. Cheese. I always place the cheese or cheeses on the board first then build around them. If I’m using more than one cheese I’ll buy one from each group; soft, semi soft, hard, and a blue. I also like to purchase from different regions.
2. Taste. Think of what flavors will complement each other. A creamy Brie pairs with the sweet of figs. Adding olives and pickles bring acidic and savory flavors. Bread or crackers help balance all the flavors. And don’t forget the jam or honey they are the perfect accompaniment to cheeses and meats.
3. Texture and Color. Make sure you use different colors and textures. When your shopping use a variety of fruits. Pomegranate seeds bring a nice pop of red. Dried orange slices add color and extra level of texture. Think beyond your stand fruits.
4. Meat. Charcuterie means “cured meat” so it’s important to have either prosciutto, cured salami, or even a sliced ham to bring balance to your board. Plus they pair perfectly with cheeses.
5. Natural elements. At the end I always add either edible flowers, grape leaves, or herbs. Adding natural elements brings color and it makes the board feel more appealing. (Just makes sure you know they a edible!)
Enjoy!
